PJLA Accredits its first Reference Material Producer

We are proud to announce that PJLA has accredited its first Reference Material Producer to ISO Guide 34:2009 and ISO/IEC 17025:2005. The full system assessment was completed on March 5-6, 2012 and consisted of an assessment of the organization’s quality management system, technical requirements and PJLA technical policies. PJLA would like to thank our client, Chem Service, Inc. for participating in the start up of our program. Chem Service is located in West Chester, Pennsylvania and has been providing various amounts of organic standards and  analytical standards for over 50 years. They are accredited for both ISO Guide 34:2009 for Organic Reference Materials and to ISO/IEC 17025:2005 for Chemical Testing.

“This achievement is a great opportunity for PJLA to expand into new markets. The need for reference material producers to become ISO Guide 34:2009 accredited is becoming more demanding in the testing and calibration industry. We look forward to being one of the options for reference material producers to select as an accreditation provider. The accreditation program will assist many of our currently accredited laboratories that also produce reference standards. They will now have the ability to become accredited for all services they provide with one accreditation body, PJLA.” –Tracy Szerszen, President/Operations Manager

PJLA has now applied to the Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC) for the expansion of our current recognition program to include Reference Material Producer accreditation. This application has been accepted by the APLAC community and an on-site evaluation will be completed by the first/second quarter of 2013. Once this is completed, we will go under a review by the APLAC MRA Council and a decision will be made to grant PJLA full signatory status for the accreditation of reference material producers. During the course of this process PJLA will continue as appropriate in the accreditation industry, to accredit reference material producers. PJLA remains in good standing with APLAC and ILAC and we do not foresee any major obstacles achieving this final approval. Please visit our website frequently for an update on our progress.
